Diagnostic Testing Q&A

What Is Diagnostic Testing?

Diagnostic testing available at EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center includes tests that allow your specialist to diagnose and properly treat illnesses, diseases, injuries, mental health issues, and more.

The onsite lab at EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center can save you time and money, as you don’t have to schedule a separate visit at a lab to complete diagnostic testing.

What are the available diagnostic testing services?

Diagnostic testing services available at EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center include:

  • Tissue swabs
  • Blood testing
  • Urine tests
  • Biopsies
  • Electrocardiograms (EKGs)
  • Mental health evaluations
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing
  • Lung function testing
  • Allergy testing

Your primary care provider may recommend more than one diagnostic test based on your symptoms, lifestyle habits, and risk factors.

Do I need diagnostic testing?

The EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center team lets you know if you need diagnostic testing after weighing you, determining your body mass index (BMI), and checking your blood pressure and other vital signs.

They also complete a physical exam to look for signs of injuries and diseases. You might need diagnostic testing if you have symptoms of or are at risk of:

  • Flu
  • COVID-19
  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)
  • Strep throat
  • Diabetes
  • STDs
  • High cholesterol
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Heart irregularities
  • Heart disease
  • Arthritis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Allergies
  • Asthma
  • Mental health conditions

The type of illness, disease, injury, or disorder your provider suspects determines which diagnostic testing may benefit you.

What should I expect during diagnostic testing?

During diagnostic testing, your specialist may take a sample of blood from a vein in your arm to complete a blood test. During urine testing, you leave a sample of your urine in a cup for lab technicians to analyze. EKGs are painless heart function tests in which your provider places electrodes on your skin to evaluate your heart’s electrical activity.

Breathing tests detect or rule out asthma, and skin-prick and patch testing can diagnose potential allergic reactions.

Your provider may swab your throat, the inside of your nose, or other tissues to test for the flu, strep throat, COVID-19, STDs, and more. Biopsies can detect or rule out skin cancer.

When do I receive diagnostic testing results?

Diagnostic testing results may be available soon after the test, later the same day, or during the next day or two. After your EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center provider receives the results of diagnostic testing, they review them with you and let you know if you need further diagnostic testing, medications, other treatments, or care from a specialist.

To find out if you need diagnostic testing at EnVIGOR Health Medical and Behavioral Center, call the office or schedule an appointment online today.
